What a journey it’s been!! By Saturday, the State of Dabar will officially become home to fifty unique stories!!!
Five years down the line, and this is how far we’ve come! We couldn’t be more delighted. So, here’s a little recap of how far we have come…
NUMBER 1 – START OVER
This is the Adam of the State. The one that started the whole movement. Granted, this was pre-State, but considering the State wouldn’t even be here without it, it’s gotta come in here. It was largely due to its great reception and success back in 2016 that encouraged the creation of more stories, so it definitely had to make its way on here, along with ‘Long Journey’ and ‘Of Voices & Vermin’ once the site was officially created.
The first of the M & D series, the tale of the love triangle between Marcus, Temwani and Allison remains a classic in its own right. Not just for being the real OG, but for being a beautiful story overall with one of the most satisfying endings ever (Marcus’s words to Temwani will never, ever grow old).
Psst, by the way, did y’all know a spinoff is in the works? And that it involves the other couple we love? Well, now you know!
NUMBER 4 – MEET THE DOLPHYNES
Yeah, we know. Technically, it should be number 5 to move to, which is “Where’s My Little Boy?”, another story held in the highest esteem around here. However, we need to do this because this was the very first story released under the State, so… this laid up that groundwork for the rest to follow.
And of course, what more is there to say about MTD? Undoubtedly the greatest story on the State (although there are some worthy contenders coming for its throne). We love every bit of it, without a doubt…
NUMBER 10 – OPTIONS N’ UPSHOTS
The tenth story is none other than another legendary tale of the State. Glori and Thomas and their steamy affair and the heartbreaking consequences that followed. What a story this turned out to be!
We knew this was a good one, but we didn’t foresee its greatness until much later on, especially after that dark, gritty heart-wrencher of a second season (the start to that season is just perfect. Absolutely perfect). This one has an assured spot in the history books, that’s for sure…
NUMBER 15 – THE BIGGER PICTURE
This underrated work of art was the last major release before the State turned into a ghost town for more than a year. We’d done fifteen stories and suddenly went off the boil, but this was a memorable one.
The Christian fantasy tale with a vital message at the end, this is a story you might tend to ignore or overlook when you see it. But don’t, especially if you’re a Christian. It’s awesomely told, with a much needed lesson at the end of it all…
NUMBER 20 – OPERATION MILK JOE
Once the latter part of 2022 came with the long awaited return of the State, five stories were released (two of which were more of a re-release), and this was the last of them.
Quite an interesting story to hit the twenty mark, with Agent Nathan foiling the criminal activities of a gang interested in killing people with albinism…
NUMBER 25 – CLEMENTINE
By the time 2023 rolled around, we wanted to make up for lost time, and we sure did!
Kay Parker, after blowing the State out of the water with the massive epic that is Power Couple, dropped another crazy tale on us, and boy, does it continue to deliver chills. The titular character was a bonafide psychopath, and poor unfortunate Akwesi just could not extract himself from her grasp.
If only he had kissed her goodnight and dropped her off and went away…
NUMBER 30 – A QUEST FOR BLISS
We hit the big three-zero with this tale of the horny young man who made his way to Kumasi to go and have fun with a girl he met on the Internet.
Yep, in the words of Makafui, this is the story of the State’s undisputed biggest fool, who accordingly got fooled big time for his little venture. I can’t lie, though, there are probably gonna be some contenders for Grant’s current throne in the coming months…
NUMBER 35 – FAR FROM HOME
Number thirty-five is the magnificent retelling of the timeless parable of the prodigal son.
Yeah, Dabar brought the story to life in magnificent fashion, didn’t he? With the foolish hare-brained Leonard, his super serious brother Lennart, and the loving Johannes, this was excellent. Sure, you know exactly what will happen, but the journey is absolutely worth it!
NUMBER 40 – THE COCOON NEVER FORGETS
The big forty belongs to another masterpiece by Kay Parker. The action packed tale of a young lady getting revenge on the people who killed her parents, only to discover shocking realities.
Yeah, this story will have that unique feature of having one of the most jaw-dropping plot twists in the history of the State. We never, ever saw it coming…
NUMBER 45 – THE BEGINNING OF THE END
2024 pretty much began the same way 2023 did: hard as heck! And for number forty-five, this biblically inspired tale about the arrogant Haman from the book of Esther, is in place, pretty much continuing a familiar trend.
From the above mentioned ‘Far From Home’ to the timeless magnum opus by Makafui, ‘Emunah’, you can be sure that the State will be doing this for a long time to come. Expect Dabar and his squad to deliver more Bible stories in epic form…
NUMBER 50 – A HEALING ODYSSEY
And completing the half century of stories is the tale of Selorm Logan! A tale of tragedy and triumph, this could well be a memorable story holding its own against the true heavyweights of the State in time to come.
And there you have it!! The journey to fifty stories! It’s been nothing short of awesome to have come this far, and as long as we’re alive and the storytelling genes remain embedded in us, the journey goes on! Expect the library to grow bigger and bigger…
