Another year has passed, and you know what that means: another annual review of everything released in the past year!

We’re dealing with various seasons of multi-series first, so, let’s get into what Sean has to say about the past year’s releases…

What’s Your Price Season 2

Well, Roger Wakefield successfully etched his name into the annals of the Hall of Shame with this season. We all knew his vengeance game was not gonna be pretty, but goodness, was it despicable!

Trashing the house of God… that’s not declaring war against the man of God, that’s declaring war against the God of the man. And as Rev David himself declared, it’s hard to kick against the goads and not get hurt. The man’s stubbornness just didn’t heed it, though.

And of course, the other actions: getting hooligans to threaten David and his family, and having him kidnapped right in front of his wife. Roger really went the extra mile to get at David. All because of a bruised ego that couldn’t accept rejection. I didn’t think he could get any more hateful after that family attack; the sight of Sika weeping was sad enough to see. But well, corruption loves to go all the way, doesn’t it?

But hey, there were so many satisfying parts of this season. I absolutely loved the fact that David tore the SoB a new one in that unnecessary call. His deliverance after worshipping was jaw-dropping and glorious. And of course, Roger’s end. The man might have been ahead of the curve when it came to mortal men, but he could never outwit God. Not in a million years.

That was a fitting end to the bastard. The State has seen God deal with people for stepping well out of order, and Roger was just another one. At the end of the day, God wins. And as David was on his side, he won, too.

The Showroom Season 1

After that backstory, there’s one thing we know: Wilson is on the cusp of losing his place as head of his church. What we don’t know is when it’ll happen, and what the Archbishop’s plans are.

What this season did show us was the beginning of Wilson’s journey in the ministry. There’s no denying the guy carries God’s anointing and did some powerful things at his current church.

We also see that the man’s extremely strict with his current crop of church workers, which doesn’t always make him loved. Considering how uptight Josh gets over a background colour, that should tell you a lot. And speaking of him, it appears he and Ellen aren’t on the best of terms. I wonder why…

And Erasmus… while we wait to see how his story merges with Honest City Church, man’s going through the unfortunate struggle. Searching for a job in another man’s land certainly isn’t easy. How that’ll go for him remains to be seen.

Season 2

Okay, after that ending, we probably understood why the McQueens were super cautious in dealing with those around them. Because how the hell do you poison the cake and juice of the new pastor and his wife?? Goodness, church politics can be ugly!

Also, something tells me Bishop Kusi just might be the major villain in this story. It’s pretty clear he’s got motives that go well beyond caring for the flock, with the so-called deals he had concerning the Chatswick branch. And he wants total control too, which explains why he wasn’t happy about the headstrong Wilson taking over. We’re gonna have to keep an eye on him; he’s not a good guy. But he could already tell from the backstory, right? For all we know, he’s probably behind the poisoning thing.

Now that penultimate ending took me out. Ellen’s out of the country, and Wilson’s been placed in a hotel. What?? Something tells me we’re going to see Josh take a prominent role in the coming season, coz he’s been done dirty. Big time.

And for Erasmus… is he gonna get any job? And how is his story connected to that of the church folk? Guess we’ll find out next year.

Heaven’s Mercenaries (Power Couple S3)

We all knew it! Malcolm Glazer was alive and well! Stella and Karla are in grave danger.

Only thing was, we discovered it might just be deeper than we initially thought.

Who would’ve thought that the real danger for Stella and Karla is actually Katherine? It looks like she’s way more powerful than we expected. Also, what was with that bombing of Inspector Kpodo’s office? And has she been in control of Kane’s movements this whole time or something? This was so unexpected.

The second part of this series is definitely gonna be explosive. With a clear target on the ladies’ backs, and a group of ‘mercenaries’ under the control of a bishop with a different shade to her, how is this gonna end? And what’s happening to our dear couple while they do their usual? The end to this tale will be crazy, that’s for sure!

Cues Corner Season 2

Bruce’s boss deserves a spot in ‘Biggest Idiots of the State’. Taking inspiration from a movie villain to be unnecessarily mean to your employee? Goodness! Lorenzo is a twat for real. His unravelling was so sweet to watch, and Bruce’s parting shot? Sweet stuff.

The Fugah twins settled their long-standing feud. Thank goodness for that; it was not a nice thing to see. It was so clear Delasi regretted her actions, and Didayy’s refusal to let go just wasn’t fair. Delali certainly did a good job bringing him to order. Of course, in the midst of all that, he managed to come through for Clarence. That was such a reliever, wasn’t it? Being unemployed is simply hellish, and it was great to see him finally get a job.

That roasting over his relationship with Irene was necessary, though. Very necessary. Homeboy ain’t that slick, especially when Delasi can easily find out.

And for Becky’s father… yeah, he kept up his despicable ways until that strange encounter that left him ravaged and remorseful. That finale was heartbreaking. But hey, at least he recognized what a fool he was and apologized to his children before dying. That’s some fitting closure right there, even if Becky and her siblings would have wished differently. What is Bishop Gordon’s secret? We need to know! And are the Aforos finally pregnant?

By the way, I absolutely loved how Bruce ripped that idiot cousin of Asor to shreds! Nothing more irritating than nosy relatives asking unnecessary and hurtful questions. The husbandhood salutes him for protecting his wife!

Season 3

Definitely one of the most emotionally packed seasons we’ve seen on the State in a while. From sorrow to joy, and back to sorrow, and some more joy.

First of all, that scene of Becky and Asor in a tearful embrace at the family home had me teary-eyed. The love between those girls is so deep, and that was proven here (as well as the touching speech at the funeral). Then the proposal from Deladem to Olivia… beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

We had our confirmation on the Aforos; they finally got pregnant! And there was Bishop Gordon and Akpene celebrating their anniversary. Lovely stuff. And who would’ve guessed that Rakim was the guy who helped Becky change her tyre at the beginning of the tale? ‘Fine Caramel Chocolate’ came in at the right time. And, he also convinced her to drop the Margot Robbie desire. Quickly, too. The power of love, eh.

Bishop Gordon’s story finally came to light, and damn, was that unexpected! Nobody would’ve guessed that he was actually married before meeting Akpene, and that he wasn’t that pleasant beforehand. What a crushing tale. No wonder he still had flashbacks every now and then. But it also explains why he loves this family so much. God gave him another chance, and he certainly became a better man.

A magnificent end to an awesome series. This one definitely finds its way into the State’s GOAT conversations, no two ways about that.

Stay tuned for part 2!
